Jordan Varble Apex Companies Stormwater Project Manager
|
How long have you been a member of FSA (years)? I've been a member of FSA for 7 years. I did participate in FSA training and conferences while working for the Department (FDOT) even though they are not a member.
Have you served FSA in the past? Yes. I have been on the conference committee for the past two years.
What abilities and attributes can you bring to the Board? With 17 years of water resources experience, backed by an M.S. in Civil Engineering and lifelong commitment to service, I offer the board a blend of high-level technical expertise and a global perspective on water management. Beyond technical oversight, my core attributes are rooted in public service, mentorship, and collaborative problem-solving. My two years as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in rural Panama taught me to value diverse perspectives and work alongside communities of varying backgrounds to achieve shared goals—a mindset that brings an inclusive, well-rounded viewpoint to board discussions. Additionally, my ongoing role as a citizen scientist for the CoCoRaHS Rain Network reflects my personal commitment to grassroots data collection and environmental education.
What background and experience do you have in the stormwater industry? I am a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida and a Senior/Lead Project Manager within Apex’s Water Resources group. My career is dedicated to large-scale stormwater design, regional watershed modeling, and flood mitigation. Recently I served as the Lead Project Manager for the City of Sanibel’s Surface Water Management Master Plan, focusing on post-hurricane resiliency and sea-level rise. My experience also includes acting as Engineer of Record for major regional water control structures, neighborhood stormwater retrofits, and high-capacity pump stations across Southwest Florida. Furthermore, I have served as the EOR on over 125 ERP applications for university expansions, hospitals, and private communities. This extensive history provides me with a comprehensive, up-to-date understanding of Florida's complex hydrologic challenges and regulatory framework.
Why do you want this Board position? I want to serve on the FSAEF Board because I am deeply invested in supporting and developing the next generation of Florida's stormwater professionals. The Educational Foundation’s focus on the Scholarship Program and research initiatives aligns with my belief that advancing our industry requires a strong bridge between academic theory and practical application. Having earned my thesis-based Master's degree and applied comprehensive modeling and research throughout my career, I understand the role that research plays in building resilient infrastructure. I want to leverage my experience to help guide stormwater research projects, evaluate and support scholarship candidates, and ensure our future workforce is equipped with the technical skills, real-world perspectives, and language diversity needed to effectively communicate with and serve Florida's communities.
