Charlotte Haberstroh

Charlotte Haberstroh
Black & Veatch
Water Resources Engineer

How long have you been a member of FSA (years)?
I have been a member for three years.

Have you served FSA in the past?
No, I have not.

What abilities and attributes can you bring to the Board?
My graduate education (Master and PhD) and industry experience have been focused on the stormwater industry in Florida which I feel very passionate about. My career has developed around both academia and industry. Having spent many years conducting research and interacting with the academic community and also having the industry perspective of what is needed to forward stormwater knowledge and address future challenges in Florida, I am able and enjoy connecting both worlds with each other. I maintain relationships to the research community and currently serve as a committee member for a graduate student at USF conducting microplastic research. I also work hard and get very excited about engineering, I enjoy connecting with people about their work and passions and I would love to help driving the future of stormwater.

What background and experience do you have in the stormwater industry?
I am a senior water resources engineer at Black & Veatch (BV) with over seven years of experience in engineering and consulting. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering in Germany and a Master of Science and PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF). I lead and implement stormwater and watershed modeling and planning projects in Florida, from local neighborhood projects to reservoirs to watersheds. My work entails H&H modeling, stormwater master planning and permitting, watershed assessment and optimization, level of services assessments. In addition, I am BV’s subject matter expert on (micro)plastic pollution in urban water systems, including stormwater, helping to prepare the stormwater and water industry for an emerging pollutant. I received the FSA Educational Foundation’s scholarship in 2018 which allowed for me to go to my first FSA conference and have a membership for one year. Since then, I have been attending FSA events and, especially in the recent years, I was able to attend and present at FSA conferences, which I consider the most important conferences in our Florida industry.

Why do you want this Board position?
Receiving the FSA Educational Foundation’s scholarship has made a big impact for me, connecting me to the regional stormwater community and starting to know the industry. I would like to give back some of the support I have received and I enjoy supporting and mentoring early career professionals and students, especially love seeing them grow passionate about stormwater. I have been looking for opportunities to get more involved with FSA and the FSA Educational Foundation Board has caught my attention as it speaks to my interest in industry and academia. I would love to support efforts to provide education, training and research and help forwarding the stormwater community.
