The Florida Stormwater Association Educational Foundation’s Scholarship Program awards financial assistance to qualified students attending Florida colleges and universities whose educational interest is in stormwater research, management or finance.

Applications are accepted annually from graduate students in colleges or schools of engineering, natural science, public administration (or closely related fields) that have an interest in stormwater quality, management or finance. Eligibility is limited to students in good standing that are enrolled in a graduate program at a Florida college or university.

A scholarship of $2,000 is awarded each year.

Meet the 2015 Scholarship Winner:  Andrew C. Hood!

2015 Scholarship Winner Andrew Hood and FSA Educational Foundation Chair Kim Ornberg.

The FSA Educational Foundation is proud to announce the 2015 Scholarship Winner:  Andrew Hood.  Mr. Hood is currently enrolled at the University of Central Florida and pursuing his Doctorate in Environmental Engineering. His dissertation title is “An Assessment of Biosorption Materials for the Removal of Nutrients in Ultra-Urban Stormwater Treatment Systems.”  The goal of the project is to assess the treatment performance of biosorption materials in an upflow configuration, such as would be utilized in urban environments with limited space.  The project compares nutrient, turbidity, TSS and bacterial removal efficiencies for stormwater treated through three different materials. It will also identify the mechanisms by which nitrogen is removed, developing a correlation between specific types of microbes and nitrogen removal performance through the use of qPCR.
