1997 Annual Conference Overview

Annual Conference A Success
FASU's 1997 Annual Conference drew 125 people to the TradeWinds Hotel in St. Petersburg Beach. The evaluations submitted by the attendees indicated that the meeting was FASU's most successful yet.

Workshops covered a wide range of topics, including best management practices, establishing stormwater utilities and rate policy, NPDES permits, and future directions in EPA programs. The Conference exhibit program featured presentations from Florida's top engineering and consulting firms on emerging technologies and new products.

Keynote speakers included Henry Dean, Executive Director of the SJRWMD; Roosevelt Childress, Chief of the Water Permits Section in the Atlanta office of EPA; and Don Berryhill, Chief of the Bureau of Water Facilities Funding at DEP.

Emery Swearingen, Public Works Manager for the City of Gainesville, was thanked by the Board of Directors and the membership for his service to the Association as its President for 1996-97. Mr. Swearingen was instrumental in founding FASU in 1994.
