Annual Conference A Success
FASU's 1996 Annual Conference drew over 100 people to the Orlando
Marriott. Based on the evaluation forms submitted by the attendees,
the meeting was a complete success.
Workshops covered a wide range of topics, including subjects such
as stormwater management techniques, establishing stormwater utilities
and rate policy, NPDES permits, and future directions in DEP and
EPA programs. The Conference exhibit program featured presentations
from top engineering and consulting firms on emerging technologies
and new products. The Chairman of the Florida Environmental Regulation
Commission, Dick Batchelor, was keynote speaker.
Dorian Valdes, Chief of the Water Management Division for Metro-Dade
County, was thanked by the Board of Directors and membership for
his service to the Association as its President for 1995-96. Vice-President
Emery Swearingen presented Mr. Valdes with a plague in recognition
of his efforts. Mr. Valdes was also instrumental in founding the
organization in 1994. New Officers Elected
FASU's Officers and Immediate Past President constitute the Executive
Committee and oversee the organization's operations between meetings
of the Board. The membership elected the following new officers
for the 1996-97 year: President: J. Emery Swearingen, PE Director of Public Works
City of Gainesville Vice-President: Wm. G. Chamberlin, II Stormwater Utility Bureau Chief
City of Orlando Treasurer: Patrick S. Collins, PE Section Supervisor
