BMP Selection,
Maintenance & Effectiveness Seminar (Advanced)
This single day seminar offers an outstanding
overview of Stormwater Best Management Practices. It will
guide managers and engineer's through the criteria necessary
to make the right selection of stormwater BMP's. Specific
topics include:
- Preview of Florida’s “Unified” Stormwater
Quality Rule
- Pollutants - Types, Sources, Loading and Removal Mechanisms
- New Development versus Retrofitting
- BMP Types - Alum, Ponds, Filters, Infiltration/Exfiltration
Trenches, Constructed Wetlands, Proprietary BMPs and many
others
- BMP Selection Criteria – Land Availability, Soil
Types, Groundwater Level, Construction and Maintenance Requirements
and Costs, Removal Efficiency, etc.
- BMP Monitoring – Dissolved and Gross Pollutants,
First Flush, ASCE Database
- Pollutant Removal Calculations for BMPs – Modeling,
Treatment Trains, Spreadsheets, Pre v. Post Pollutant Loading
Calculations and Design
- NPDES/TMDLs – The seminar will also include a discussion
of BMPs within the context of current NPDES and evolving
TMDL requirements
Presenters
Gordon England, PE, DWRE,
has over 27 years of experience in stormwater management,
in both the public and private sectors. His experience includes
stormwater master plans, modeling, stormwater utility creation
and management and grant acquisition. His 10 years as lead
engineer for the Bahamian Ministry of Works gave him a thorough
understanding of municipal operations and perspectives. He
is a recognized leader in the selection and design of innovative
stormwater BMPs, and serves as an Editorial Advisor to Stormwater
Magazine and on several task committees for the Environmental
Water Resources Institute.
Carla Palmer, PE, has over 30 years experience
in the stormwater quality improvement and environmental permitting
arenas. Ms. Palmer taught in the School of Environmental and
Civil Engineering at the University of Central Florida. She
was a director of regulatory matters for two Water Management
Districts: St. Johns and South Florida and led water quality
planning and implementation initiatives at both districts.
As an engineering consultant she has led creative teams in
the design and development of innovative stormwater management
systems. She serves on the Stormwater Management Academy Advisory
Board for the University of Central Florida, the School of
Engineering’s Advisory Board for the Florida Gulf Coast
University and the Education Foundation Board for the Florida
Stormwater Association.
